Kiteloop Crash at 91 km/h - Roderick Pijls

Today I'm trying to set my own record with landing as fast as possible after a KITELOOP. I hit 91 km/h in the air.. what an incredible feeling to travel that fast through the air.

I saw these momentary speeds from GPS while looping before - and without any doubt of yours courage and balls - i honestly think thats measurement method error.

I have numbers reason which i state here:

1/ I dont see physic behind going downwind faster than wind. I take line load and slingshot effect in mind but in air you cannot load line that much. You maybe can go faster than wind but not 2 time faster.
2/ I think land jump at 97kmh will be much much violent - and almost certain lead to hospital. Anybody fall from jetski at 100kmh will agree. I still account for different angles kite lift etc... but anyway 100kmh - water is concrete.
3/ In no video with such claim i see how they bleed this 100kmh speed. Such a momentum will require considerable distance to slow down to normal 30kmh kite speed... You will not fall at 100kmh and just stop on 10 m. Its 50 m skipping on water surface.

I will be glad to see others opionions and repeat i have deep respect for your courage and atleticsm i just think its some measurement deviation.

Red, that's Dolphin Beach in Cape Town, just upwind of Kite Beach where the KOTA was held. A tiny parking lot, but a lovely wide open sandy beach, my favorite for riding in place.

Consider the freefall acceleration speed as 9.8 m/s every second, freefalling for 2 seconds would give you an end speed of about 70 km/hr, take into consideration the energy lost during the transition from vertical fall to horizontal speed due to the pendulum effect, then add the initial launch speed of about 30 km/hr and there you have it, about 90 km/hr.
And regarding the landing, consider kite basically becomes a parachute from the moment you pass underneath it. :)

By the way, was not shown in the vid, but i think he made a check of his device when driving in the car.
So Speed measurement shoud be right?

I dont know, what kind of device measure these speeds? It is absolute peak velocity in space regardless of direction or pure horizontal speed?
