Unfortunately he cut the landing from the shore camera...cannot exactly see how he hits the water.
Because with every crash you should lift up your legs to rather with your butt, to get the energy away from your board and legs/knees.

RE kicking the board off, this is also totally wrong in my books. Exactly how I snapped my ankle. I could easily land any jump in 30cm of water. In boots thats even more easy.
But decided to kick the board, and snapped me ankle. As said, its a choice between snapping ankles or a spine. Or a neck.
People easily forget snowboarders jumping huge jumps and landing them on groomed slope, which is not soft at all.
