Jesse Richman's Terrifying Snowkiting Incident - Pushing the Limits

Postby Toby » Wed Jun 12, 2019 4:53 pm

Pro kiteboarder, Jesse Richman, attempts to snowkite in an element that he's not used to. Something you should probably never say in this scenario: "What could possibly go wrong?" Unfortunately, that's the first thing he asks when he's about to fly through the air on a snowboard.

I mean, it was very much like his tow up stunt. Very good piloting skills.

You couldn't even pay me to try that.

Nothing went wrong: this time.
Paragliding with a kite is dumb.

Essentially paragliding with gear that was not designed for paragliding. Doesn't seem like a very good idea. Of course it's fun ... until something goes wrong. Ask Billie.

This is not really anything new, Ruben and many others have taken LEIs over cliffs / steep edges and basically paraglided down. And don’t tell me this was a massive surprise / scary emergency - he would have known the wind conditions and prepared specifically to do that. Not that it doesn’t take lots of skill and cojones....

Yes --- and i also bet that Jesse had a back-Up reserve parachute , hidden away
under his jacket.

It's OK to do stunts like this ; as long as the "VIEWER" realizes ,that it
Is a stunt ; and a rather dangerous one at that !

I was on my PG two seasons ago,at an altitude of 11,000-ft ASL, when a
Desert dust storm appeared from nowhere , (it was Not in the days forecast ).
I pulled the B-lines down to my balls and essentially folded the canopy in 1/2.
When i let go, at 3,000-ft ASL ; the PG just flew away , and 300-ft later
i landed.

My point here is :
A PG is built to take that kind of punishment ; a water kite Ain't !! :nono:

BTW : Soaring a glider like what Jesse did , is Really Fun and addicting ; just
do it on stuff that's built for it and you will get to do it a bunch more times.
It's ALL i really Wanna Do ; nothing else really matters !!!!!!!! :o :jump:
