Strapless jumping tips (please advice :-)

Postby Marcel Surf Life » Thu Mar 04, 2021 6:18 pm

Hi all, I would be super happy, if you could share with me your experience "how to progress in jumping strapless"... :D

This is a short video of me practicing tiny jumps whit a strapless surf board. This is, that you understand, how it looks like, right now

What are the advices to progress here?

Especially:
- What is the best way to train a backroll with a strapless surf board? (Kite steering and how to grab the board)
- How do you manage to jump with a strapless surf board and land smoothly by steering the kite back forward into the landing direction? (What to do, with what hand?  )

Thanks in advance, Marcel

looking good

ollie the board into the wind so it float a bit on your feet (own a light board!) grab the board with your front hand on heal-side and absolutely Death Grip It!, wax up the rail all over where you grab. you gotta push the bar up with your back hand quite hard to keep kite flying forward. if you pretty flexible grab in stale fish (back hand in front of back foot on heal-side edge - then you can free up your front hand - a bit easier. first ones i did was with a small wave as ramps. some of the strapless tricks need a lot of wind to make sure the boards stick to our feet.

just dangle them to start with with a reasonable amount of wind, a wave ramp helps as you dont needs to reach down so much and it throws you into a rotation.

practice makes perfect

Many thanks... :D

To get that straight:
you gotta push the bar up with your back hand quite hard to keep kite flying forward.
You mean with "push up" depower?
if you pretty flexible grab in stale fish (back hand in front of back foot on heal-side edge - then you can free up your front hand
I my imagination of doing that, I think I will loose my board, because the wind will push it down in the front. Anyway, I'll give it a try...

I agree, practice is key here... :)

You mean with "push up" depower? no steer the kite forward after you have jumped

you needs to be angling the base of the board towards the wind
