Interesting how both victims instinct was to grab onto the bar.
I once had to rescue a panicking downed kiter 400 m offshore in large waves in Barbados.
Luckily I was just strating to learn to Kite with a surfboard and had a leg leash on at the time.
As a trained Lifeguard Rule # 1 Is don't put yourself in danger. # 2 Don't allow the victim to grab you.
I was able to calm down the panicked Kiter. Push my surfboard to him and get him to hang on to it and Body Drag back to shore with my Leg Leash attached to the surfboard.
