I have to imagine that it is difficult to want to end his competitive career. However, he’s 34 now and has at least one kid. I think that has to start to have some impact on just how far you push things. Not to mention that these young guns are really bringing it, and they don’t have those considerations at this point.

I’d say Kevin is by far my favorite person to watch ride. His Kevlogs are fun to watch and you just get a generally good vibe from him. Maybe the torch is passed now, but I hope he’ll continue to be a presence in the sport for a long time!

Doesn't matter. Kevin has nothing left to prove. He (and others of his generation) laid the groundwork for the "new kids" to perform at an extraordinary level, and I'm sure they know and respect what Kevin has accomplished. If and when one of them wins 3 KOTA titles, they can thank Kevin for having already done it with style, sportsmanship, humor and grace. :thumb:

You should really watch the event, it is well worth the time it takes.

For anyone that does not want to know the answer, look away.

All three podium finishers were teenagers.

No chance. The older the more you fear. Time to leave it for the new generation.

Wonder what the judging criteria was... all that experience the "old guys" have didn't count for much, it seems.

I honestly have never heard any Big Air megaloopers openly discuss "being scared" before. Makes sense to be scared: these guys are essentially cliff diving in gale force winds and wild seas. It's amazing that they have been able to develop the skills to handle these conditions while not being severely injured in the process. The young guns are standing on the shoulders of the previous generation of kiters, but the consequences of making an error - or even worse - equipment failure, are becoming more & more extreme. And they are taking these risks for a pittance.

Congratulations to Kevin for an amazing career and best wishes for all his future projects. :thumb:

Basically the same as always. The kids just did more technical stuff at similar height. This is also the first year the kids figured out reasonable kite angles.

Only a couple of the old guard did doubles. MJ was the only one able to somewhat match for trick technicality, but at ~90kg on the same sized kite, I doubt he'll match their height on a regular basis.

Definitely worth the watch. By far the best kite competition yet.
