Are you trying to decide between a 15m or 17m kite for light wind kiteboarding? In this video, I'll go over the pros and cons of each size kite so you can make an informed decision. I'll also share some tips on how to get the most out of your light wind sessions!
For tricks it is all about power...better to have 17 and then 14/13 if wind really picks that much up. Plus, 17 is slower...gives you more control. All depending on weight as well.
. The question I really need help with is why no 20m kites? They go down to 3,4,5m sizes for fucks sake, but no 20 ??? Um…..
You can buy a kite that size, but only in a foil kite. Since foil kites are flatter, they generate more power, so an 18 foil is equivalent to a 20 m tube.
The biggest LEI that I am aware of is the Ozone Edge v11 19m. It is not exactly optimized for light wind, but is probably the best bet for heavier riders that absolutely do not want a foil for whatever reason.
There were Turbine and Contra in 19m size not long ago. For a 240 lbs rider those are appropriate sizes.
Yet at 200+ lbs the 15m Turbine on 37m lines with 170x50cm Flydoor worked really well. And then my foiling got better
The 17 always felt slow, yet on the other hand a 13m Turbine and 14m Rally 2012 weren’t enough
