Off topic, but I’ve thought about this too … around here we have some kite surf spots that don’t have a good launch, so the best bet is an upwinder to the break. Can be a painfully long trek on a surfboard, but would be half the time or less on a foil. Strap a surfboard to your back, or tow it behind, then change up when you get there? Or a foil quick release where you can easily pop it off, surf, then reattach for the downwinder home?

Or, back to thread topic, could just go straight there and wing it, no launch issues (though not really an answer if the breaks aren’t foil friendly).

It seems like these things basically don't work unless it's nuking, at which point why wouldn't you want to be out on a kite so you can boost? Beyond having a way to surf towards the beach perfectly flagged out, are these really that versatile or sort of a one-trick pony?

Did a low wind test today in 8 to 11 knot winds. Used my biggest Axisfoil Front Wing 1020 and got going.

For sure it is not really practical for most people, but it shows that it is possible to use in light winds and I can't wait to see how the 6m works.

Just one comment (had to find out as I dont know these wings):

The Axisfoil 1020 wing is 1020 mm in span, and area is 2051 cm2.

I am sure the wasp is a great wing, the problem are the boards right now. SUP foil boards? Really?!? Not a good way to attract kitesurfers to the sport.

Surfing, small thin ultralight boards.
Kitefoiling, ultra small super light boards.
Kitesurfing, small thin medium light boards.

Wingsurfing, super thick fat heavy boards with huge foil wings.

There is only one fun video, and thats Kai Lenny riding the wing with a small kitefoil/surf foil board jumping in 30 knots

Very impressive video Gunnar. It is not easy to get up on the foil in such light wind. But once up foiling it feels great.

Only if you want to ride in lighter winds and when learning. When it's stronger winds you can ride small boards too.

Is it possible to wing foil with something like a GoFoil Kai, which is considered quite large already for kiting, but small compared to the pump/downwind SUP foils?
Or would that require some crazy amounts of wind before liftoff?

Had the same worries and size of the board (and sail) is why I cancelled further tries to go back to windfoiling. But for wingfoiling I found a solution so additionally to the board I have now 3 and 5 m Wings.

I think if you want to jump there is no reason to leave or add something to kitefoiling. The mean argument I see for wingfoiling is to have the joy of surfing even very small wind waves especially in low to medium winds of 10 - 20 knts, where wind and waves can be to low for kitefoiling or no more compfortable to paddle with a SUP foil.

@Gunnar: as you got more experience in all those sports, correct me if I am wrong.

My actuall board is not for the absolut low end but most of it, weights 9 kg (without stab) and therefore is also jumpable. It is also very compfortable to carry in the shown full assembled setup and the pump you need anyway for the wing. See further info about the board in other topics.
