I've been using a waist belt for about 6 weeks. For sure, 100%, it is annoying to have your board leash dangling and bouncing in the water. Absolutely drove me crazy. And, it is nice having the wing leash at your waist, but not without compromise. For knee starts I find it getting caught more when on the waist. But on the wrists I found it getting caught in my hair a lot when jibing.

Leashes are a pain in the ass, no getting around that. I may be ditching the board leash soon.

The waist belts are better than the alternative, but they are still kind of a pain, mainly because of what you attach to them!

I've seen many instances of people desperately swimming after their SUP, and that was in light conditions, and without even a wing to deal with. To me that's an absolute no go, and actually against the maritime laws here. No leash means you'd need a big life jacket which is likely to be more of a pain than the leash. Coiled surf leash and a belt is pretty user friendly, and keeps it out of the way.

Ha haa, indeed, you can not ride without board leash IMO

Even when no waves, the board drives downwind quite fast, away from you, and you can not use your wing for anything to drive yourself towards the board.

The wing leash is something one could ride without though, not as important unless when windy.

Thanks for the board leash comments. Rather than ditching the board leash I bought a 5' dakine surf leash - straight, the previous was coiled. The coils have become a real pain. Anxious to try this one today.

Try a belt/waist coil leash, IMO the best solution.

Let's hear how you get on with the straight leash first though.

I don't like them, they get stuck around everything, and also dangle and are noisy when just riding, slapping against the board.

Agree with you, coil leash around the ankle is a PITA.
