Who are the Wing foilers ?

It's a fact that kitesurfing brands are the ones pushing the sport due to its similar technology with inflatable kites and perhps this is not the best place to ask as it is mostly a kite based forum but from which sports are riders mostly crossing over to Wingfoiling?

Are they crossing over from other foiling sports or also from windsurfing, sup, or kiteboarding? Maybe it's plain even?

The one guy I met at the beach with a full set of kit and the only other local who has an efoil and is all horny for winging were simply new to it all. No windsurfing or surfing or kiting history.

Maybe thats why I haven't seen one up and running yet.

What do you like about wind foiling, compared to kite foiling?

On my spots it's mostly kitesurfers giving wingfoiling a go, but unsuccessfully as non of them is flying consistenly or returning to their starting point.

The few windsurfers that are doing it are much more succesfull, jibing and even tacking for a few, still early days though.

Here it was kitefoilers starting wingfoiling, and when others could see how well it worked, windsurfers (windfoilers actually, till now) has jumped the wagon too now.

Apart from families having fun in all ages on their SUP boards also with a wing, and typically the experienced kite or windfoiler in the family, goes wingfoiling while the rest have fun on SUPs, so a win win for the whole family

True , with the right equipment it can be enjoyed by the whole family. Kind of like the beginnings of windsurfing.

At Cape Hatteras there appear to be only three wingsurfers at Canadian Hole. One is Charlie, a very good local kitefoiler, who has it down. Another is my friend Dennis, who is coming from a very good kitesurfing background, just getting gybes now. I don't know the background of the third guy, but he is older, like Dennis, and can cruise around but struggles with gybes.

I only know one of the wingsurfers in Cape Town, but last season there were some very good ones in the ocean, plus a bunch learning on Reitvlei, a flat water site near Kite Beach restricted to Windsurfers and Wingsurfers. The guy I know is an all around waterman, and in addition to kitesurfing moved from SUP to SUPfoil, and now wingsurfing, commonly doing downwinders from Milnerton to Kite Beach.
