Moses W1000 Speed?

Postby Wazza Foil » Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:54 am

I have now had a few sessions with my W1000 with 420 stabiliser.
My top speed so far is 28.8kph and with more confidence I am sure much more is possible.
Anyone have top speeds results using the W1000 for Windwing or kite foiling ?
What stabilisers are used?

I'm considering getting a 1000 to replace my 1100 for more speed, but these results aren't that promising. My top speed on my 1100 is 17.3 knots, or 32kph.

Having winged on both of these mentioned foils, there is absolutely no comparison in speed. The w1000 is by far faster.

After a break from my W1000 and only on the 1100 to day I went back to it for a comparison.
A few benefits of the W1000 is considerably less drag, way better upwind, smoother ride nice whistle at 24kph to 28kph, much faster without effort and I can stay on a 5sq m windwing when I would be over powered with the 1100.
But not selling the 1100 as it get up on the foil in less wind but not much.

Update on above.
Yesterday the wind was mostly 15 to 20kn gusts with some lighter lulls.
In the lighter lulls the W1000 took enormous pumping effort to get up to sufficient board speed. Failure to reach the right speed results in some porpoise action.
The 1100 would have popped up easily.

What size wing were you using in these conditions? I was on my 1100 today in winds averaging 15-ish knots but with lulls down to 10 or even less and didn’t have much trouble with a 4m Wasp, though there were times it was easier to wait for a gust than to try and pump into foil in a lull.

Reply to above.
15kn plus with the W1000 no issues with 4m BRM Cloud windwing.
Less requires board speed pumping skills.
5m Cloud with W1000 12kn wind but can go to 20kn due to efficiency of the W1000.
1100 in 20kn plus wind requires 4 or 3m BRM Clouds

I tried it for the first time today and it's definitely harder to get going on when it's light. It's not that hard to ride, and there's an adjustment required for how fast you have to go through gybes and such. I was able to break 20 knots/23mph on it on my first day out, which is significantly faster than the 1100. It's 20% faster than the 1100 without even being accustomed to it yet. It does not surf small waves as well as the 1100.
