What handles do you use?

Postby sedelito » Tue Oct 06, 2020 4:57 pm

I have a Slingwing v2 4,4 as only wing and it starts above 8ms with Moses w1000 and 790, impossible under that?
I only use the handle on le with the next to last handle on a strut.
Using the front strut handle feels strange and not really ergonomic for me?
Does anyone feels the same?

I dont know, but you probably have to find out yourself, as which handle you use is also depending on how much wind you got, usually.

On most "handle" wings I have used, I also avoided the first (closest to the LE) handle quite soon, on all of them.

Some might like to use the front handle to let the wing "float", and be super easy to grab again.
Much faster than if you hold the LE handle for floating, and have to grab two strut handles again, when about to lose foil.

Others will probably have had the same experience as you, on the 4,4 but IMO is it not important and pretty normal for many wings.

Use the ones you find works for you, and cross fingers you dont "miss" a handle for perfect equal load on both hands
As some wings, in a particular wind, does not have the "right" handle for balance, and you have to grab one a tad too forward or rearward of the right spot.

Now I use wings with boom only, prefer these in so many ways :naughty:

If it is like windsurfing the novice will tend to have a wide grip with the front hand well forward of the CE, so it is easy for them to sheet out and dump power. As you get better your front hand will start coming back and eventually you will be able to control the rig with your hands close together opposite the CE. On a windsurf rig this is the same place as where your harness lines should be. Perhaps Peter can say whether the same tendency occurs with wings!

PS the CE, centre of effort, position will migrate depending on wind strength and sheeting angle, another reason the novice has a wider grip.

All true Herman.

And yes the same for a wing as a windsurf sail in this respect, in relation to the CE and "Grip".
