Interesting ideas. I'll have a think about how to make a hook that folds flat but pokes out when needed. Sounds like a David Attenborough thing. Hopefully not as complex as a male spiny echidna's under carriage.

I bought the Forward Wip wing belt. Simple and light weight. Generally happy with it although the square shape of the section that the belt slides through often catches the harness line and deflects it out and away from the hook when trying to hook in.

The NSI hook works well since it folds sideways (out of the way) when you crawl on your board. A single strap around my waist was a bit uncomfortable so I cut some cushioning from a cheap foam floor tile and taped it on with electrical tape. It has held up well and is comfortable now.

I've had the same issue with the forward wip belt. Other than that it has been great. Usually takes me 1-3 tries to hook in. Using just 3/16" dyneema line for harness line. Nsi hook looks better.

Been using the Fly from Dakine, works great, hook moves if you fall on the board, Also slides to the side should you fall
