Pretty sure it’s just novelty for the type of airs he can get with the wing. Sorta unique. Still impressive that he can land it almost every time. Pretty cool 360 footy but damn does a GoPro ever shrink a wave! My footage gonna look like the salt flats!

No way that wing gets him going on a little board with no foil. Tow in all the way. More wing propaganda!

Love all the marketing shots of guys inverted with em. Only like 0.4% of wingers be doin that.

Certainly a fantasy to think they be ripping without a foil.

I saw a jet ski somewhere in the background when he took a wave...I also assume it is tow in. How would he get out of the water otherwise?

And, if you want to jump, get a kite 😆

Thinking about a tow in made me wonder if we will see a tow up..

If i remember correctly from my paragliding days, 5.5 sq meter speedflying wing has a min speed of about 30kph with average (80kg?) load. But the canopy has lines supporting it.

So it is theoretically possible, but with inflatable wing deformation the take off speed and drag would probably skyrocket.

Kai likely has a couple kicking around somewhere.

I think that's the point: Kai has so much experience & time of the water - it's doubtful anyone has the range of skills that he is able to bring to bear ... & the opportunity to exercise them. I think this is just Kai giving it a try.

I've never really seen the point of kiting in huge waves. The apparent wind becomes so great going down the wave face that the kite just becomes an impediment. A wing doesn't seem that much of an improvement. A windsurfer seems the best option me ... aside from being towed in.
