Wood wingfoil board?

Postby Jyoder » Mon Mar 22, 2021 4:47 pm

Many of us have kitefoiled on wood core foilboards: TT construction, or DIY paulownia, plywood and glass, etc. Is there a niche for wooden wingfoil boards? Now that low volume water starting is shown to be possible, I wonder if going foam-less would be possible.

Many downsides, of course, but I wonder... big heavy plywood plank boards plane very easily, are stable in choppy water and can float a heavy surf foil with help of a decent deck pad. With a little wing power, kneeling to start should still be possible. Could a big cheap plank for learning help with the cost of entry into the sport to bridge the gap from big to smaller board?
