nayy - thanks for posting your progress!

I had my second session yesterday on a borrowed homemade board (cut down SUP), 6m wing and an Axis 1150 Pump & Glide front with 400 rear.

I was able to get up on foil and ride one direction, but struggled going back with right foot forward. I got tip strikes and ran over my wing several times. Walked back upwind a bunch. Tougher than I expected!

it just takes some time to build the correct reflexes and muscle memory... take your time it wil come automatically with more water time... don't get frutrated and enjoy the process...

Had my very first wing session today - 17-20 knots. I was pleasantly surprised I was able to kneel and taxi several times as well as doing some jibes. Shins and knees are sore and could not stay upwind probably because I had the foil all the way back and I was forward on the board. I think I may be able to do better if I move the foil forward. Going out tomorrow afternoon in similar conditions. I am stoked as I did a whole lot better than I expected!!

You could jibe on your very first session?

Amazing, I have never seen that before :thumb:

Most just try to get the balance and try to control the foiling height, first time out.
In fact, a few even don't get up on foil.

Regarding knees, I also found it tough on them when learning, as I did not stand up as fast as now.

If the foil is too far back, it's harder to stay upwind if you are on your knees. When standing, you can control the fore and aft weight and trim better - plus you can generate more speed.
In stronger wind, it helps to move the 'rear' knee closer to the centreline before placing the front foot forward on the board.

If the wind is light and less help for standing up, you can lean on the wing beside the board with your 'rear' hand, move the 'rear' knee nearer the centreline and use the fingertips of your 'front' hand to take the weight off your 'front' knee and place your front foot.
Once you are standing and got the feel for balancing with the wing, you can save energy by keeping your arms straighter and balancing with the wing a bit further away.

I can only recommend Duotone's Wingfoil Academy App - every aspect explained in incremental steps from various views from zero to hero ! 🤓

@ Peter - all my jibes were kneeling and I was just taxiing, did not get up on foil. In no way was I able to stand up as I want to take it slow.

Yesterday the conditions were very light wind (8-10 knots) contrary to the forecast, but I went out anyway. I moved the mast forward and I did not go down wind as much. Spent about an hour or so and made a few runs and jibes. However, my shins and the tops of my feet are pretty raw/sore. I am gong to look at getting something to cover them (too warm here for a wetsuit). Any ideas for protecting my legs? I guess it would be motivation for me to start standing up.. :D
