That would have been a period of revelation for him coming from race boards.

Looking at the wing clip, it’s certainly starting to look like a great fun option. Am pushing some old windsurfing buddies hard to take it up.

Think they will race them? Well of course they will, but will it catch on? If so, why???

All foiling looks kinda goofy ... & wing foiling looks the goofiest. However, seeing someone really skilled reveals the unique potential of a wing: the ability to feather the the power input on whatever point of sail. Pretty impressive. This is aside from the advantages of easy access to the water & the ability to launch in gusty & unstable shoreline winds.

I predict the shark will bite by the end of the year ...

All foiling looks kinda goofy ... & wing foiling looks the goofiest. However, seeing someone really skilled reveals the unique potential of a wing: the ability to feather the the power input on whatever point of sail. Pretty impressive. This is aside from the advantages of easy access to the water & the ability to launch in gusty & unstable shoreline winds.

I predict the shark will bite by the end of the year ...

I agree ,winging feels way better than it looks

The low speed,the uprightish stance...Johnny H is carving with about triple the lean angles of anybody else and it still looks kinda gentle and non dramatic.

But TT kiters plowing through chop and then "jumping" (as in hanging from a trapeze and pulling weird body contortions) don't look so hot either.

Windsurfing (imho) has the best aesthethics,when they finally manage to get powered of course (Force 12 Beaufort ? )
And the first half of a lay down jibe is the most beautiful transition ever, but even top guys look so-so in the second half.

Horses for courses,just go play with whatever.
I did some windsurfing years,tried kiting for 3 days but did not bite and now the wingything keeps me busy and happy.

JH also shows that flat water winging can be every bit as smooth, cool and challenging as winging in waves and downwinder bumps. In fact I’d argue that there are so few really decent wave locations and conditions that most of us are limited to glorified flat water riding. Might as well strive to make the best of it..........

It seems the more skilled people get at foiling, the better it looks - it just seems to look better, the more it flows.

Soooo much better suited to racing than kites, no wonder you see most of the foil kite racers on wings on Insta these days more than kites.
