Large wing size recommendation

100 kg. Armstrong 2400. 120l board. 4.5 A-Wing.

I’m looking for recommendations on usefulness of a large wing. While learning windsurfing I used a 9m sail. Initially kiting I used a 17m kite. After an intermediate skill level was achieved I sold them. There large size became cumbersome and unnecessary. I’d hate to repeat that beginner mistake again. Is a 6.5m or larger wing useful after the initial learning phase has passed? Or would a 5.5m be more useful longterm?

I am 105kg and I use my 7m Slick 50% of time. Been a great wing.

Like in kiting, windsurfing etc, using smaller sails/kites for many are more preferable, however the big wings/kites/sails do offer added performance in lighter winds and also if the rider is a heavier rider. While my 6m is not my favorite size, it is a very useful size when in lighter winds and extra power is needed and would have missed out on many good sessions if my 5m was my largest size. As you are a heavier rider and have the 4.5m Awing, i then would encourage you to get the 6.5m Awing as well and possibly the 5.5m A wing which you will likely prefer over the 6.5m but probably wont give the max low end performance.

In winging, rider's weight makes a ton of difference. If you are willing to explore light wind territory, a 5.5 will be too small even after you progress.

It won't be a mistake if you want to get the max out of winging. I'm 77kg and my 6m North Nova (brand affiliated) gives me so much extra scope for light winds and doesn't have the cumbersome feel of a large windsurf sail of kite.
