This week tried the W945 and the W940
Edited: With S483 stabilizer
W945 with F1 Strike 3.5, 7+ft waves, 22+ knts wind
W940 with 4.5 Ensis, flat water, 18 knts wind
W945---------------------------------------------------------------------------W950
loose, easy to switch to different sides----------------------------------carving (when in a curve, its stays in a curve)
no-ventilation----------------------------------------------------------------ventilation in waves
low take off speed----------------------------------------------------------higher take off speed
take off gradually-----------------------------------------------------------take off yes/no
moderate speed-------------------------------------------------------------higher speed, but not for speed riding, i would guess max 20 knts
less stable, but stable enough for one used to foil--------------------very stable
good for swell/waves------------------------------------------------------ good for flat water
waves max 7 ft because of speed limit----------------------------------easy swell or non steep waves
pumping ok (but im a beginner)------------------------------------------easy to pump, build up speed
good for beginner because of easy take off and low end-------------good for beginner when having enough wind because its very stable and stays in a curve, needs more speed
Although I tried the W940 with complete different conditions than the W945 (I got it one day later) here is my opinion.
W940 compared to W945
far more loose
quite faster
take off no problem (75 kg), but needs more speed than the W945, and a bit more than the W950
less stable, as a beginner i found it a bit more challenging to gibe and switch feet, but still easy enough
when foiling its no problem to keep it going when the wind is failing a bit
pumping is ok, but less than the 945
works great in big waves, going fast down the wave there is no problem with too much front pressure
What to buy?
I hate ventilation and as I like the loose feel, low take off speed for low wind conditions I prefer the W945 over W950
Happy to combine W945 with the W940 for progression and 4+ ft waves
So good advice from Gunnar
