SAB W800, good for winging?

Postby happywizz » Mon Aug 30, 2021 10:11 am

Currently I have a SAB W940 and W945. Mostly using the W940. (Combined with the S370 stab)

I would like to experiment with a faster and more agile wing for wave riding. Although the W940 is doing really well.

Will the SAB W800 - windsurf race - https://sabfoil.com/en/products/wing-80 ... -race-wind be usefull for winging? And what are the possible (dis)advantages?
Is it possible to mount the S370 on the kite fuselage? (It doesn't say so in the SAB datasheet.)

I'm 75 kg.

Cheers

Yes. It is great for winging in strong winds. I use it when it's over 25 knots. It can be used in less wind, but it takes a lot of work to get flying. Then I prefer the W1000.

Is there a justified advantage of the W800 compared to the W940 in strong wind and high waves?
Is the S370 usable with the W800?

Gunnar, thanks again for your valuable info.

Could you state what front and back wing setups you prefer in swell & waves (in low and then high winds), please? That would be awesome! Thanks!

The 800 is a lot faster and more agile as it is on a shorter fuselage. Also a lot more pumpable (if you have the timing)

With the 800 I only use the S400. It works for everything for me.

How is it compared to other true HA wings like Lift 120 and Armstrong 950 in terms of turning off the wing and downwind surf?
Saw your video but how much effort would you say is necessary to stay without the wing for a light rider?
So much more video content online for these two other wings and only your videos on the 800 for that purpose so your comments are huge help.

Thanks

Gunnar convinced me to go with the 1000 over the 800 and I’m glad I did, but I’m only an intermediate winger and occasionally need the extra glide during gybe or carve to fumble with handles, etc. I’ve always kinda disliked winging due to feel of a big draggy foil compared to my race kitefoil but the 1000 on kite fuse and stab feels nice and efficient, fast and plenty agile. Stoked!

You are aware the 800 (and 1000) won’t fit on standard Moses surf fuselage, right?

What is your weight and what wind range do you go with the W1000?

75kg. Strapless 75liter board. 3m, 4m, and soon 5m wing wind. I kitefoil below that on race kitefoil. Not much wave experience but bay swell. I’m not good enough to do real aggressive cut backs on the swell yet like I do with kitefoil but I think that’s me and not the foil.
