Just figured out who "this guy" was. Ryan Parsons. Check him out (@ryanparsonsofficial). His slides are on another level.

Also, look at his foil. The front wing is significantly truncated and squared off, which makes sense for this kind of maneuver. He basically throws the wingtip, and once it clears, he surfs the wing sideways. In theory the truncated wing should allow you to release the wingtip tip more cleanly.
