Who out there is experimenting with stabs? And building their own?
I am!
So, back when I rode Moses I owned and rode every stab they made, which was a lot. Since then I've moved on and obsess with different stabs. But I became frustrated with them and started building my own - well, starting last Friday. And I rode V1, V2, V3 and V0 this weekend.
They all worked, but I couldn't believe how well V2 worked for surfing. It was 6" wide, but deep, like another 6" deep. It was rough though and had terrible high end - presumably due to the fact that I made it in about 15 minutes out of mahogany and didn't spend a lot of time sanding.
But here are the take-aways:
Skinny (in width) (like 4", 5", 6" skinny) but deep in length work incredibly well for surfing. It is easy to slide the tail all around, while maintaining lift and slow speeds. The slide can get all squirrely but still have no problem functioning.
I don't know how to post photos - if someone points it out I'll show the tails.
Really curious if anything else has gone the opposite direction of the current trend - rather than super high aspect tiny stabs, go super low aspect super big stabs?
Anyone?
