For wingfoil at what weight?
And how experienced?

8) Peter
78kg to 80kg
Experienced kite foiler, limited wing experience.
Bumming gear and up riding both directions on 90L board using AK Surf 1600 and GoFoil RS1150.
Getting ready to buy a full setup and struggling to decide opn the right foil.
In my head a 1250cm2 with AR 6+ would be a good fit.

Thanks
Tony

Tony,

I have a couple of sessions on my Fluid LT and really like it a lot. As Peter says it’s very carvy with great high end and reasonable low end. Again like Peter said glide is decent but that’s certainly not its strong suit. Here’s a video of my first flat water session on it in about 13-23 kts. Of course this is from the perspective of a 78kg, 63 yr old strapless (bad right knee) rider. Your profile says you’re in Hatteras(?). I live here too so I’d be more than happy to let you try it out sometime. I use it with the Fluid H 42cm pro stabilizer and pro fuselage.

On another note I’ve finally gotten a few brief flat water sessions on my Fluid LH wing. As designed it has a very efficient fast glide. And it clearly turns better than the only other HA foil I’ve tested (ART 999), However……I’m still not sure if it’s the best fit for my riding style. For downwinders and small surf (what I got it for) I still like to tack constantly and not just connect bumps with a bunch of jibes and luffed gliding/pumping. Even though the Fluid LH turns quite well compared to something like the ART 999, it’s still a 102cm span foil and it’s just not as easy for me to “throw it around” hard especially while tacking. My Fliid LT doesn’t come close to matching the glide BUT my Veloce LT surprisingly does a decent job of keeping up with the Fluid LH when it comes to pumping and glide. Not on the same level but still decent especially for someone with far less than ideal pumping skills like me. I can’t carve the Veloce LT quite as hard as the Fluid LT, but I can still get it to carve/turn much more aggressively than the Fuild LH (90cm versus 102cm).

I guess it just goes to show that everyone’s specific riding style/ability level is different. Still gonna hang onto the Fluid LH for now but I’m not sure it’s going to win out over my Veloce LT. Seems strange to ride two foils that seem so close to each other (Fluid LT and Veloce LT) but they both appear fill a niche for my particular feeble riding style!
Thanks Dave!
I'll shoot you a DM.

Go with either the Fluid LT, or the Fluid LH, as your "next level" foilwing.

I have a Fluid XL which is my overall easy "go to" foilwing, easy, turns well, starts early (same weight as you), glides pretty okay although a bit too slow often.

Now I also have the Fluid MH which turns fast, rides fast, but require some more power and skill as just below 1000 cm2, so I only use it when windy.
One gets used to these wings, so when getting back to low AR fat wings, they feel draggy ha haa - odd but true :naughty:

Have sold my Veloce XLH as it could not fit in my car, without taking something apart - I want the board and foil to stay assembled thank you.
And waiting for a Fluid LH which I know can juuuust get in my car, fully assembled with board, as it has less span and no anhedral :D

The Veloce XLH turns pretty fast for its span, amazing, and the guy I sold it to was impressed with that :thumb:

For the Fluid LT, what would be a good all around stab choice given my background. Would it be better to go with something bigger than the Fluid H 42cm pro?
Seems like the Fluid LT and fuselage are pre-order available October 19th.

Dave,
It would be great if I could get a look at your foil sometime.

Go with a bigger stab when so new.

A lot more stable when learning jibes.

Later you can get the smallest for lively fun.
Or buy two sizes now.

@ Tony,
I see you're an experienced kitefoiler on Ketos gear, if you're looking for the same feeling it will be difficult..
I went from normal Fluid to the T's which was a really good improvement, all with a small Veloce stab (only available at that time).
If you're after one front wing LT or LH (but no experience with the H wings jet but I cannot imagine it would be a problem with good kitefoil experience) get a small stab, I see no reason for a big stab on Winging compared to my small stab on kitefoiling the small stab on wing gear is really stable. (with my Gong gear)
If you do the first sessions with LT or LH on flat water and windy conditions you don't have to change / upgrade the gear that soon

Yeah, two stabs may be the answer.

Yes, the feeling is different but gets better with smaller boards.
I feel lucky to have gotten over the initial hump with access to gear demos etc. Trying to buy a setup I can use for long term.

I will "withdraw" my advice on two stabs for wingfoiling, reflecting further on your experience Tony, get the smallest stab you can as wingfoil is so easy and slow turning anyways, compared to kitefoiling.

I sold my Veloce XLH.

It couldnt fit in my car, only missing one or two inches but sufficient to be a PITA....
The guy I sold it to loves it, nice :thumb:

Now I have bought the High Aspect Fluid LH, 1221 cm2.
It can be in my car easy, fully assembled with board.

Been out two times:

Feels very much like the Veloce, meaning difficult and takes some time to get used to the balance - you have to stand more centered.
Veloce XLH turned well - I think the Fluid LH do so too, it is lively, but I dont know much after only two times out.

The second day was much better - first day was in difficult conditions dead onshore headhigh waves very close, for my first run on a new wing - so not all perfect that day for my slow learning ha haa
Second day I could glide on even really small wind swells - YEEEES, feels almost like the Veloce despite a tad less AR.

I think I have been spoilt riding so much on my 1480 cm2 Fluid XL, that my body needs longer time to change to a new wing :D

How does it work for you guys/girls?
Assume there are others who ride the Fluid XLH now.

It gets better and better the more you ride it - amazing glide and turns fine, which is what we all want in a foilwing I think :thumb:
Takes some time, for me, to get used to the new balance point.
