Second Wing - Light Wind 8m

Postby JakeFarley » Sat Aug 27, 2022 1:01 am

I am considering a second wing (8m) to compliment my 6.4m Slingwing. At my locale the winds are not that strong (0-15 knots) so I think an 8m would be good for flat water foiling. The only 8m wings I have seen mentioned on this forum are the Nova Light Wind Wing and the F-One Strike CWC. Are there any others out there that I should consider? Or should I perhaps consider a 7.5m wing?

BTW I am 6'-2" and 92kg.

Have you considered a bigger foilwing (or board) instead?

Around here 7 and 8 m2 are not used at all even for guys 90-100 kg.

6 m2 for light winds, and a more efficient foil.

Having good technique, a smaller wing (can pump better) and a board that can be pumped, and an efficient bigger foilwing makes the difference.

I also think it is because with an efficient foilwing and a tad smaller wing, handling is so much better in transitions - and nobody wants to ride "straight out" for very long

I have a 6.4 Slingwing v3 and it feels like a 5.5 from other brands only with giant wingtips to drag the water's surface when pumping. It's a fine wing when powered up, but certainly no lightwind all-star. I'd definitely consider the CWC 8m for real light wind.

I have a big foilwing now (Infinity 99 - 2376 sq. cm.) and my board is 110l but not carbon. I need more experience to improve my technique to get the most out of my current gear.
Getting a more efficient/smaller foilwing is one of the options I am considering. Thanks Peter! You are always a source of good advice.

Yes they do. Just add it to the cart and do the checkout and it will show shipping. Shipping for a wing is like 60 euros, pretty good deal
Pay via bankcard transfer, then use wise.com to transfer it. Way cheaper than credit card.

The thing is the technique will only improve after many hours on the water, and your big 8m wing will offer you some much needed flying time. So I think it's a sensible path to follow, and even if next year you feel like your pumping abilities make you feel like you don't need a 8m anymore, it'll be fairly easy to sell it.

230 Lbs
Using a 6.5 DLab Unit as big wing with Sab 1250 front wing. Can get on foil in 12 - 14 mph. I have an 8m Strike but don't seem to use it; heavy, clumsy to pump, big hard to gybe in lite air.
Not 100% sure I am sold on this but getting there.

I am not sure an 8 m2 is easy to sell, when noone uses these sizes here...

Maybe one could sell at other locations or internationally instead if used more overseas?
(I never do that myself though, sell outside our country, too difficult in so many ways, but that is another topic, and I can see how it is needed when you are in a less active area/country)

Havent really seen positive feedback anywhere, on 8 and 9 m2 wings?

Isnt it a bit like the old LEI 20-25 m2 sizes, a thing of the past - seems like new wings and foilwings are so much better in more "usable" sizes now

But I agree, that you need a bigger wing the first years, than you want later or if mediocre talented (like many of us), to get going, true :D
