It looks like there are only three manufacturers of an 8m wing - North Nova Light Wind wing, Gong Superpower and F-One Strike CWC. I would definitely like to see reviews for these big wings before purchasing.

Gong Superpower 9m is going to be too massive even for me at this point. I can't imagine handling one of them(12'-4" wing span, and Gong's Pulse is 13'). Would probably need a long mast.

Why would you need a long mast?

The huge wings are usually very wide, low AR, so you dont get the tips in the water too easily.

But your problem will be pumping up onto foil with a big wing - once up the big ones are "clumsy" indeed, but my experience is they dont hit the water, once you are foiling, even with a short 85 cm mast (I have 85 now).

Big wings can be very difficult to pump onto foil, so you dont gain anything - but of course, they will get you going without pumping, earlier yes.

Here big wings helps indeed.

The Gong Superpower 9m is excellent.
I would not worry about the size, my 5'6" (167cm) 14 yr old is hadling it with ease. He loves that wing, it is super stable and has lots of power. the 9m has actually a shorter wingspan than a 7m plus.
We love it - it is a great lightwind weapon;)

Thanks! Informative video comparison. I noted that he said the 8m was better for sub 8 knots. With my weight (92kg) probably considerably more than him, I may need the 8m. I really liked the "tightness" of the canopy of the DLab.

6.5m DLab - $1,840 USD, 8.0 Strike CWC - $1,409. For about $400 more, is it really worth it? I'm going to contact my local shop that sells both and ask which they recommend for the light winds we have here locally to maximize my time on the water.

Have you tried it back to back with strike or dlab?

I had the strike 6m for a year and just got a dlab 6.5m. Haven't tried them back to back yet, so can't give a definitive comparison on low end. They fly very differently. Dlab feels super light, goes upwind way better. I think the strike luffs better when surfing, but for this large size I'm not really surfing waves very often.
