Has anyone tried the Gong Mint 5.0 or 5.2? 105 litres and 120 litres respectively would be my first board to start and progress.

I don't plan to stop kitefoiling, just sailing in places and winds difficult for kitefoiling. I weight 85kg.

+20L is more then enough..
get faster foils, if its Gong you're getting then FluiD T's are fine when familiar with foiling

Is it Sabfoil w1100 fast enough? I don't want to struggle with advanced foils to start just want to get something similar to what w633 means in kitefoiling and stay thare.

The W1100 is great for learning :thumb:

But will get too big later, it is 2100 cm2.

You will want wings around 1000 to 1500 cm2 then, at your weight.

Can I ask mas for your advice in regards to my Wingfoil setup? it is Mint related, so I will use this topic if it s ok.

I bought 2 months ago the beginner pack, composed of and inflatable board (5.3 HIPE, 110 litres) with the XL Xover foil (feeling 1.900 cm2 according to Gong) and a 5 m Gong Plus Wing. I have used it in 10 sessions, winds from 14-25 and can foil straight, but find myself overpowered, the front foot pressure is very high. I have the feeling that the foil to big for my needs, the board has too much volume, and I would also need a smaller wing (4 m perhaps). Besides I have realised that having to pump up and deflate a board is not what I want, it my sessions unnecessarily longer.

So I am thinking in buying a second set, the GONG PACK WING ALLOUND, which would be composed of a non-inflatable board (the 4.8 Mint with 80 litres), a 4 m neutra v2 wing, and a L Curve foil (feeling 1.350 cm2 according to Gong)
As background; I am 63 kg, 1,74, athletic, beginner kitefoiler, advanced twintip+surfkiter /10 years’ experience) and Intermediate surfer+Supper.

Would you say it s the right choice? right foil (size, model), right board (volume, model)? I do not want to carry a lot of material. Winds are 14-28 I my homespot. In my mind, I would like to have 2 wings (4+5), one board and one foil when possible.

I would get a Fluid L-T foilwing instead, a much better wing better glide and size, otherwise good choices.

The X-Over is way way too big and draggy for you (and most heavier than your 63 kg), and will never be able to glide on a wave either.

Supereasy to learn the first couple of rides, but then nothing happens, draggy and lifts too much.

The Curve is also a bit too draggy and low aspect IMO, but a much better foilwing, and the fastest turning one.

But go with the Fluid L-T which feels like 1250 cm2, perfect for you now and in the future :thumb:

And what about the windrange?will the lowend be affected when changing from XL X-over to L-fluid/LCurve? From how many knots would you say i could reallistically start, given my weight (63 kg) and a 5 m wing?

thanks

I dont know, people here have some (IMO) crazy unrealistic low end wind claims...

Would say your lowend would be around 12-13 knots with this setup, and when you get experienced you should be able to go closer to around 10 knots.

Whether your X-Over low end is better?
Hmmm, in totally steady wind it will start early yes, but once up it does not really glide much and lulls will get you down again.
Whereas a faster foilwing like this one, once you get a puff and comes up, will let you glide through lulls because of less drag and more speed (apparent wind = power)

My friend close to 90 kg, uses a 530 cm2 wing, and in light wind an 800 cm2.
But okay, he is really good, so once he is up, he stays up because of the low drag and speed
I need a bigger foilwing myself, but use a 995 cm2 once there is okay wind (78 kg)
And a bigger when light wind, but still under 1500 cm2.
