a new design of the leading edge and the possibility of changhing the surface of the canopy using only one frame is a game changer....

I know a guy who has a patent on the elliptical LE, he invented it many years ago.

Will see what he says.

Gaastra had an elliptical leading edge on their Phoenix kite 15 years ago, windsurfers and paragliders have been using that shape (cambers) for ages and so do most sailboats these days. Aerodynamically it certainly has advantages.

Zips used for changing the surface area were also used unsuccessfully by an American windsurf sail manufacturer in the 80's and also by RRD on their first kites. Nothing new there but maybe it will work better on wings?

A patent is good for 20 years only!

I still have an 18 proto with a zípper, it's used to test different shapes in one proto...

My friend had the patent, but not anymore, so it's free.

True, Gaastra tedted those.

I can see that the elliptical leading edge would be more aerodynamic. The forces on a wing are mostly perpendicular to the surface of the wing possibly resulting in more flexing unless they made the narrower elliptical cross section larger resulting in a overall larger leading edge and more weight. Is that what they did?

Also, the stresses are greater on the narrower cross section and it would require quite a robust leading edge than an circular one. If this was so good, why haven't kite manufacturers come up with and elliptical leading edge?
