Welcome to the Cabrinha Team Titouan

Postby Toby » Tue Jan 31, 2023 5:41 pm

"I have always liked to develop gear that performs to the highest standards and being involved in research and development is something I’m really exited to work on with the Cab Design Works team.

This year i'm looking forward to push myself on the water, compete on the world tour and make some next level content".

That is a big big news !!!
It may be even bigger than Lorenzo joining Cabrinha. I've heard or read somewear that he (Titouan) was the highest paid athlete in the Wing/Kite industry. But it may be only a rumor.
Another big loss for F-One after Liam.

Somehow these things are always bipolar.

Meaning, the way different brands gear works, good or bad and which target groups, got nothing to do with their team riders at all.

But the way they get PR, has HUGE impact from their top riders, is huge.

Just a fact and how it is, and in some respects a bit funny when you think about it

F-One is huge in France, but not so much elsewhere. And it's kind of the opposite for Cabrinha. I have no doubts that there were plenty of opportunities for Titouan to be involved in R&D with F-One.
Cab already had Keahi in terms of freakly talented multi-discipline young rider, and poaching Titouan seems more like a case of who has the deepest pockets and marketing budgets.
But hey, this is fair game. And a big pay check will always trump any kind of brand loyalty that may have been.

At the moment, F-One is the leader on the Wing market (according to their CEO Raphael Salles in a recent interview). However, it seems that F-One has no intention to use "new material" (Dynema based material) in their kite and wing gear in the near future. But for a competitor like Titouan (and other), and especially for the race part, it may become a decisive advantage with more rigid frame. I think it also played a role in his decision.
But, he had to choose a brand with good Wing AND good foils. In my opinion, Duotone has a good wing but very mediocre foils (for competition).
