Hey everyone, looks like we might have some snow builing up on the ground pretty soon!
Since it will still be a while before the lakes freeze, is there anywhere to snowkite in the area before then? There are tons of wide open sod farms around, some big feilds with nice rolling hills, but I dont want to piss any farmers off...
Does anybody have any info about where to go once the snow falls? I have tried the chicken loop, but the website is pretty messed up...
I'm obviously a long way from Barrie. But I know there area a few regulars in powerkiteforum that ride in or near that area. They could probably give you some intel. I personally haven't ridden there so I can't say.
Already checked out Local Kite Spots, not really what I was looking for. We have 15cm's of snow around here, and with the wet and packy snow today, it's going to be a solid base. 15-20cm's of lighter fluffy stuff in the forecast tomorrow so I wil probably be knocking on some doors asking about riding in someone's field on Wednesday. If anyone from the Barrie area is interested, let me know and maybe we can find somewhere.
I was out at Wasaga beach on Sunday... There were snowmobiles riding by one the beach while I was out on the water. Have to say, it was pretty awesome, but I had to be very cautious as I didn't want to spend much time in the water/ waves!!!

So just wondering if you found anything? I was hoping to get some kiting in this weekend.
The locals keep everything quiet.
Best bet is to ask a farmer, or wait until Bass Lake in Orillia freezes. Luther Marsh typically freezes pretty early, but I wouldn't expect ice just yet.
Never got a chance to go out this week, and I'm at home in Trenton for the weekend. I actually just got back from North beach, had an awesome session on my 12m Varial.
With the temps rising this weekend and into next week, it would be nice to get out to Wasaga Beach a few more times. Anybody interested in making plans to go out Monday or Tuesday afternoon if the wind cooperates?

Haha - the land spots are kept quiet, but that's because they are private land, and permission was/is asked by the kiters. It is assumed sometimes when asking for access from the landwoner, and you are granted, that the permission doesn't extend to anyone reading a local forum.
Your best bets for early season land spots are in fields. There are quite a few kiteable spots west and north of Barrie. Wasaga has good fields north of town. Just make sure to ask, unless you like the sound of gunshots while riding.
Kemp Bay is prolly 2nd best (Bass lake 1st) ice spot, and has great wind in all directions. Ample parking at Minets, Allandale Rec, Centennial, Hooters!, Johnson beach. Lots of kiters around.
Bass lake is ridable in all wind directions with great parking, and has the best snow hands down.
