Went up to Flat Tops last weekend. Not much snow but the views were nice.

Incredible pics. The Flat Tops are awesome, just difficult to get to. Since I no longer have a sled, they're pretty much out of reach for me these days. Wish there were some park and ride spots up there, since they're practically in my back yard. Thanks for posting.

Snow Mesa update: Went down Sunday and again Tuesday, Sled access part way up, the last part is still too rocky. Parked the sled and skinned to the top. The snow cover is pretty good for December. Sunday was light wind, Tuesday was 12M for a while then it backed off. Saw two moose on the road and lots of tracks. Might try again Tuesday next week!

Anthony, if you head into that spot with Zachbones, take extra gas, it's a loooong way in, about 6500 miles. But worth it.

You call that "not much snow"? Looks like plenty, especially compared to what I have to work with sometimes here in Cleveland.

Happy Turkey Massacre Day gang! I am thankful that the white stuff is starting to pile up. Wind was good up at Crystal Reservoir in Ironton this afternoon but I was worried that I was going to fall through the mixed 6" thick ice/slush layers. I plan to get out Saturday up on Big Mac after the big dump tomorrow. Anyone interested?
So exciting to hear people are getting out again! Might go to Big Mac without a kite Sunday just to milk some turns (so please leave some for us). Is Crystal frozen/safe now, as far as you can tell?

Anthony, I'll also be looking toward the mesa soon. What do you mean that parking is complicated, please? The normal issues, or is anything new?

Looking forward to seeing you guys soon!

Justin
Justin,
Not sure on crystal. It hasn't been particularly cold, so I'd guess not frozen. Reports in that big mac coverage is good enough.

I was wondering why I hadn't seen those rock formations on the Flat Tops here in my backyard. I was all set to look for them though. :D

Super easy access with the newly paved road, steady winds, alright terrain. OK coverage. Hitting it at the right time of year can be tricky. Good burgers and beer on tap at Captain Fitz's after riding all day.

Less boney to the west but still not a bad snowpack

They paved Coffee Pot Road? And they plow it? Or are you talking about a different part of the Flat Tops? Where's Captain Fitz's?
