Well, our family ditched winter, covid, and school last year in La Ventana and had a muy buen tiempo. This year we are back for all three. In southwest Colorado, it turned into winter very quickly over the holidays after a prolonged fall. It is great to be back in the powder!
Grand Mesa has 5' snow sitting in the parking lot! Lizard Head has excellent deep coverage as well. Crystal Reservoir has the normal soft snow and a little slush. Above treeline MacMillan is rideable but is heavily wind-scoured and pretty thin with lots of grass and rocks still waiting to take out your ski bases or knees. I hear that it's deeper at Molas Pass and maybe Lemon?
Our family is finishing up a round of Omicron then I look forward to some fun kite adventures this winter. Lmk if you guys see some good forecasts in the area.
As usual, I'd like to extend an invitation to any travelling kiters to crash in our mother-in-law studio in Ridgway.
Cheers, Matt
