Ohh snap! Scott no you didn't!
I guess I could have flown a pillowcase with strings, but then I'd have to go home after kiting and play the Crying Game yikes.
The Sun is back and warm temps are coming. Hoping to catch some thermal this afternoon and slash up the low elevation powder before it's slush.UPDATE: Pow slashed! Why we live here: blue skies and deep pow:
Come on San Juan plow crew! Time to fire up the old D5.

I had such a great time riding Jarosa and finally putting some faces behind the screen names. It was an interesting day and despite the ribbing about being a snowboarder I loved it. It was tough for a while in the light winds and the lack of mobility to get the kite relaunched made me feel like a kook but man, when the skies parted and the winds turned on...well, there is no place on earth I would have rather been at that point in time.
Thanks Scott, Matt, and George. You guys rule and I wished I lived on the Western Slope now. For the love of God, someone take some pics next time!

Decided to go to Snow Mesa this morning on a 10-15 forecast. The snow is still good, hard in the morning and softened up in the afternoon. Great 13 M kiting. The trail up is still groomed and in good shape. Snow Mesa is one of the coolest places to kite!

Hope it holds until April. Be back out then. Tried to ride in the UP of Michigan over the weekend. Snow was like a melting slurpee. JR

Nice! Backcountry conditions in the Elks have been really good, but limited wind the last few weeks.
Hoping to make another trip down to the San Juans this season!

Cap'n that's an Upski. I've never seen one in action but apparently they can get you up a hill safely. Nothing personal catsh, but I can't imagine I'd want an Upski over a kite...
Lots of snow left in the San Juans. I got a nice corn snow session in this afternoon on McMillan. Things are rotting out below 10,000 feet but it's all good in the alpine.

has anyone ever gone up into TomBoy basin to explore?
yep - its an UpSki, our little niche mountaineering sport in the world of kiting.

catsh I've been wanting to get up in that area and explore. Particularly, it seems like Ingram Basin ( next to Savage/TomBoy) could be a good destination to hit from the top via RMP. Tis the (corn) season! Feel free to give me a shout 970-318-1469 if you'd like to rally down from the Bonedale.
Snow still looks great:
