A good week of strong SW wind with 6 and 9m.
Now looks like a week of weak North coming up.

Anyone ever kite Lake Estes, Grand Lake or Lake Granby? Estes is almost always windy, negative would be high power lines along main road but look easy to avoid. Lake Granby has a sailing club and a lot of boats so it’s probably good. Thinking water (with dry suit) and snow kiting. It’s smokey up there now from the Cameron Peak fire - 34k acres and smoke up to 35k feet - we made it through Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday right before they closed Trail Ridge Road because of the smoke.

Snow Mesa has enough snow to kite. Some rocks on the mesa but pretty good for November. Skinned in but could have taken the sled about half way, the upper part of the trail is still pretty rocky. There are a couple of trees down across the trail so the chainsaw will be on the sled next time. Let's hope for some more snow and a good season.

Big Mac is still pretty thin. Wednesday's wind scoured the basin. Skiing in the trees was good down low, but we still have a ways to go up high. We also stopped by Crystal in Ironton on our way up. The lake is frozen! Some skaters told us they measured 4" around the edge and 2" in the center. It should be good to go in a couple of weeks.

I know snowkiting is picking up, but can we talk about wing foiling on water for a minute? "Buy straw hats in winter," they say.

I'm curious if many of you have tried it, and if you think it could work well on reservoirs in CO, please. It seems like a mellow alternative to kiting (safer, easy on the knees, based on conversations with some of you), and since I've never actually water launched, a decent way to enjoy the water.

I've seen some tutorials where people just kneel or stand on a high-volume board, eventually get moving, and then progress to getting on-foil. I wouldn't expect to be on-foil for the first session (or maybe several), but I'm interested in making a go of it. So, I'm curious, have you all tried it, and/or what do you think about the viability of this in CO? For me, it'd most often be Blue Mesa.

There are also suggestions to get a board that's 10-20 liters more than your weight in kilos, but I'm seeing people on huge boards that would be like 50L more than my weight. Curious what the tradeoffs there are, and how the foil size plays into it.

Thanks for any thoughts!
