2015 World Ice &Snow Sailing Championships/Sturgeon Stampede

Less than 2 months until we celebrate the 26th annual Sturgeon Stampede. This year has the vibe of becoming an epic year. Not only are we hosting the 35th annual World Ice and Snow Sailing Championships, but we have extended the Stampede to 4 days and added some new events including a kite fly-in, “Spear the Fatty” bike race, and “The Booty Run” Adventure Obstacle Run. To support all these awesome activities, We will have 2 heated shelters (WAK Shacks) and a huge heated tent for food, drink, music, and sponsor and vendor booths. Other activities will include tether ball, ice bowling, bag toss and a “Sturgeon Queen” contest. There will also be kite, wing and windsurf demos, and ice fishing and sturgeon spearing demos. On Friday we will light the ceremonial bonfire at dusk, and follow that with live music, fireworks, and lots of beer drinking. Saturday afternoon we will hold the Stampede “Big Air” Contest (Sunday alternate no wind day). Saturday night there will be an included awards dinner and program at the Retlaw Hotel. Ah.... the best event, most fun, least "too cool", and best organized event I've ever been to. Plus, the best crash (it's so bad it's a chrash). Thanks Ryan for the entertainment and not needing the ambuhlam.



And the best part is the winner has to eat a live minnow. OK, that rule might be suspended for the world championships.

Come on everyone. Let's make this an event that is equally supported by local and regional riders compared to those who are outside the region. I believe they have 10 countries represented so far.

We have SO much talent. Let's show it.

I know....it's a time commitment.
I know....It cost money.
I know....You want to wait to see if there's wind.
I know....Racing might not be your thing.

However....it will be a blast.
However....there will be freestyle every day as well as racing.
However....Rooms are $59/night and 2 people can split the cost. Cheap.
However....Hot Breakfast is covered at the hotel.
However....Lunch is provided at the event for riders.
However....It's the cool thing to do.

Rooms need to be reserved by the end of January to get the great rate.

I have done this event several times - always super fun!

They look to be especially well organized for this one - There will be a lot of great racing and good times!

Are you representing Cabrinha? I was talking with Todd and I think he mentioned you are coming for this event. That's awesome.

You know....If I could borrow on ice board/windsurf rig when someone isn't looking, I might have to try it again. Haven't been on an ice board or windsurfer for over 10 years, but want to try it for the hell of it to see if I can remember much.

Hi Bob, yes I will be riding some sweet Cabrinha kites, manning the Cabrinha tent as well as ice-surfing.

Absolutely - try anything you like. That is the beauty of this event - you get to see and try so many different types of winter wind-craft from all over the world. It will be amazing!
