Got a huge storm coming, how to make a most of it?

Postby ErikFromEstonia » Wed Dec 02, 2015 4:16 pm

I have 40-60 knots of wind coming in 4 days, its too cold to hit the water. Have a wide beach to have fun on. Quiver of 1, 3, 7, 9, 13 m2 kites. What to do? I weight 65kg.

Stay inside - There is absolutely nothing to gain going out there in those conditions at 14 years old with your whole life in front of you.

You must know what kind of wind you can fly each kite safely in. You've got 5 kites.

Bring your kites, and if it is too windy for any of them go home..

Im sorry - but you don't just roll onto the forum and ask for advice on what to do in 40-60 kts of wind! Many super hardcore experienced adults on here have generally commented that 40+ knots is stupid and not very fun. This is a 14 year old kid who, by reading his barrage of posts the past few months, is relatively new to kiting. I can appreciate the curiosity and questions, Erik, but cmon - now its getting silly. "29er skiff in 60 knots", "Ruben Lenten riding in 90 knots", "I want to convert a LW door board into a race board", "a 50 knot day is rolling - what should I do?"

Really?

I checked the forecast for pjarmu Estonia looks to max out about 25 knots on Saturday. I would go with the 7 and ride water temp will be 2 or 3 c. you'll want to buy a hoodie gloves boots if you don't have them. I usually ride 30 minutes come in warm up. go out ride another 30 minutes until I'm done. if you get snow ride your snowboard instead. if you decide not to ride head out and watch the other kiters. it will help later on to see what they do.

around here we are hardcore if it's wet we ride it if it's frozen we ride on top. we don't ride at all when it gets below 0c and there's no ice because the qr freezes up below 0c. just sit on the couch and wait for the lakes to freeze

Could you explain how the quick release freezes up?

if you are snowboarding no problem. If you are on water, it splashes around and turns into ice. You also get iced up so you gradually get heavier and heavier as the ice builds up and you finally can't move your arms or legs because everything is iced up. Then you come in land your kite and say to yourself "This is stupid" and promise never to do it again. This sort of thing happens when the air is below 0c and the water is too warm to ice up.
