Maine snow kiting?

Postby Maineframe » Mon Sep 30, 2019 10:38 am

Any snowkiters in the southern/central Maine area? I live between Portland and Augusta and plan on kiting on Cobbosseecontee lake this winter. I would love to find some other kiters in the area. I spent nearly 20 years snowboarding, but the drive to the mountain, crowds, and lift ticket prices became inhibiting. I am looking forward to getting back on a board with a kite. Always more fun to ride with others.

To get the goods there is always going to be some driving involved.

But not dealing with the crowds, the lines and ticket prices take a lot of the sting out of it.

There are a have been a few kiters out of Naples/Bridgton and Auburn. Though we all generally ride together and tend to hit areas on the border of over here in New Hampshire as the conditions tend to be more reliable.

I'm on the NH/Maine border in North Conway.

I live on MDI/Bar Harbor and am always looking for folks to kite with. Not exactly southern/central Maine but I'm pretty much the lone kiter in these parts and it is always better with others....and as Chris said, you're always going to drive a bit to get the goods...I do still spend a bunch of time at Sugarloaf as my wife loves skiing but doesn't kite so I get to Rangeley Lake often. Generally good conditions but it is Maine so things are pretty variable...even up there...

I have had some good sessions on Great Pond in Belgrade.

Webb Lake is also pretty good. Nice scenery with mountains around.

Good to know there are at least a handful of people around snow kiting. Maybe we'll meet out on the snow someday. Lately I've been hoping to for one more good day of sailing, but now I'm starting to dream of snow.
