If you attached the brakes to the power leaders and flew the kite they may have stretched if well powered. Check for equal lengths again and I confirm, Flexi used grey lines and or grey flecks in the lines to ID brake lines back in the day. Depending on the line set you have the powers are likely 400 - 500# and the brakes are probably 220 - 250#.
