Must watch: Kitesurfing + Freeskiing in Switzerland

Postby Dave_5280 » Fri Mar 26, 2021 9:43 pm

Video intro:

Alright, picture this: a bunch of super rad athletes from different backgrounds come together and make one big, super sport. Crazy, right? But that's exactly what the guys who thought up the X-Project did. They've basically taken windsurfing and combined it with skiing powder and then mixed it all together with snowboarding and snow-kiting too.

Pretty sweet, Dave. Thanks for the link!

I'd love to see more of the windsurf sail stuff. That takes me back.

Very nice. Looks like a fun, lets try this out, but can someone explain what the advantage of a windsurf sail or even a kite going downhill is? The speedwing is pretty obvious what the advantage is. I guess you could fly off with a kite too, but windsurfsail?

I would think it would be easier to lug a kite around than a windsurf sail. Kites pack down pretty small when needed.

No advantage, its just to make a fun video. I've ridden that slope and you can see the sail is just slowing them down, they can't even turn properly. Except for Flo who is absolutely ripping it without a sail as usual.

One guy I think was a big wave surfer, but there is no way you ever get the correct wind direction on a slope like that to even have power in the sail. It looks kind of cool still.
