Can anyone give any recommendations for snowkite accommodation in Hardangervidda area. Looking for something on a mid level budget... i.e. not 5 star hotels.
Also, what the best way to travel to Hardangervidda from the UK? Airports etc...

Here's the standard spot. I stayed here for the Red Bull Ragnarok a few years ago.
https://www.haugastol.no/en/snowkiting
It's a handful of miles from Haugastol up to the various good kite spots. It would be most convenient to fly to Oslo then rent a car for the several hour beautiful drive up the fjord. We took the train up which was great but then we had to hitch rides up from Haugastol, or ski tour back down.
That place is made for snowkiting, and the scale is so massive that you will feel like a tiny little speck of existence.

When are you going? later in the season with a bit more snow some other spots can be interesting as well.
I've done a lot of trail running around there, and personally I liked Fagerheim Fjellstugu a lot. Also depends if you want just flat lake or mountains / freeride freestyle terrain I guess. Around Fagerheim is quite rocky, so I guess it needs more snow to be interesting for kiting.
Like others said, the place is huge and you'll have a great time anywhere really.
Just before corona I went in winter and there were quite a lot of Airbnb places as well, some a lot nicer and more authentic in my opinion, especially with a group of friends.
Don't underestimate the drive across the 7, the weather can be quite bad and you'll have to travel in convoy which takes a lot of time. Sometimes hours more.

What Is the driveway accross the 7?
We'll most likely go 1st week in April. 1st time properly snowkiting so will probably stick with the standard flatter parts rather than very steep rocky terrain.

Then Haugastøl is a good base. You can go to other places by car easily.
I mean the drive from Oslo, especially the part from Geilo to Haugastøl can be difficult. They ofter drive one way convoy behind a plow if the visibility is bad, and since its a long road that takes a lot of time.
I drive a big 4x4 all through the Alps all year, but I've never seen roads that icy in my entire life. Its brutal.

Haugastol is the place to stay. Might be a bit on the expensive side but the convenience cant be beat...The owners are awesome folks (they're kiters), the food is outstanding. and you're 20 minutes from snowkiting nirvana....I've stayed there 3 times (would have been 5 but COVID got in the way...) and fingers crossed Norway will allow travelers from the US this season.
Another place you might try is
https://dyranut-turisthytta.webnode.com/ This is the tourist hut at Dyranut on the east side of the Hardangavidda. Right in the heart of the kiting. all you have to do is walk out the door...run by a guy named Radek Blazek (
radek.blazek@kiteseason.cz)...i think they're booking from early February through early April this year..

I can highly recommend staying at Halne Fjellstove.
This is directly on the plateau and if the road closes you are still able to kite up there. Friendly owners good food. Many accommodation options.
