Ever try flying a large kite to glide off the dunes?

Yes, when the dunes are hard after rain I have ridden my landboard on them and down some gliding. Not at the level of the 80m high steep light house dune. Lower shallower dunes that i'm only floating a meter or so above the surface. It is super weird gliding downhill directly upwind...... I have done a bit on the buggy too but that is not ideal because you dont have your legs to absorb the impact. As you are sitting down your spine absorbs any hard impacts. So I like to keep most airtime on the landboard or on the water.

Hehehe... yep, I am considered a little crazy in the kite buggy fraternity.... But, its not as mad as the mountain biking I do!

The dunes are so much fun. Its like your own personal endless roller coaster.

The lighthouse is 20km (upwind) as the crow flows away from our camp. We buggy through the dunes too it and back to camp again. That day I did 110km of buggying. All through roller coaster dunes. Farken amazing!

You could probably glide with the buggy if you really dialed in your technique. The trick is how do you get to that level without an injury.

I think you are wise to glide with a land board and keep it low. The snow is a lot more forgiving. We often have days where we have 2 feet of powder, so you don't have to have your glides perfectly dialed in.

Looks like loads of fun and the mountain biking looks epic too!

That mountain biking looks sketchy AF. I'll take the dune ride instead, although I'm not brave enough to hotwire myself to the bug like you.

Yeah, I'll leave gliding to you snow kite guru's. One day i'll add snow kiting to the list. But its not something i can do close by and i'm tapped on activities.
I'm happy ripping around the dunes with some low level jumps. Its still mucho fun. I can send jumps on the water and the landboard and the mountain bike.

Yep, that's my jam, Sketchy AF mountain biking.

Personally, I think the hardwire is less dangerous than a harness. You can hold way more power and don't get pulled out of the buggy, you don't get your ribs broken with a tone of side loading and you have an extra 50kg of weight to overcome before you get lofted......

I launch in the harness then swap to the hardwire while riding. I cant wait to unhook from the hardness and really chunk in some power.

Well, that's how I do it. Everyone else sets the kite up hooks it in and wriggles awkwardly around pushing the buggy back to launch ....
But I am depower foil and tube kites. So I just hook carabiners to the existing chicken loop.
