Sun Glasses

Postby s1buell_wl » Mon Jul 14, 2014 8:43 pm

Spex Surf Goggles

http://www.wearsurfglasses.com/Spex-Goggle.html

Guys I have tried so many pairs of glasses (eye's are sensitive to the sun). I can not kite without Sun glasses.

My last pair of "sharks" were slowly dieing so I started the never ending search for another pair of glasses.

These are buy far the best glasses I have used.

Rating
7 - Build quality (simple but could be a little better, but this would make them cost more)
9 - Price $97 for two sets of lens
10 - Float/Find. They get blown off my head 10 times a session (don't like the ban tight)
10 - Lens never fog and takes a long time if ever for them to build up with shit
9 - Splash reduction. this would be a 10 if you have the ban tight
4 - Looking stylish. If your a beach pimp these are not for you
10 - Using Contacts. You would have to do some crazy shit to blow a contact out with these on
6 - Size they are bigger if you have a small face these might be big. The need two sizes
9 - Viewing area is great
9 - Durability. You again would have to do something amazing to brake these

I would buy another pair tomorrow great to kite with.

I love my Sharks but $280 for a new pair - they must be joking!

Using Sun Dogs now which are great, especially for the price... But will give them a shot next time!

Don't have to break the bank to protect your eyes
I use those type of Solar Comfort sunglasses
Personally i go for the copper color polarized lenses
It greatly improves clarity...sharpness...depth perception...better if clouds show up and light gets low
Those lenses are 8 base and real lightweight extra thin polycarbonate
They are treated with smudge guard
Water beads easily off the lenses and they are very scratch resistant
They have little chance of fogging up because of the semi-rimless design and 0.7mm thick lenses

Anyway this is what i use

I attach them with an adjustable Croakie Terra cord on the temple tips
Additionally from the Croakie i run a short line as a leash to the center top of my harness
Even if they happen to fly off my head i can fish them back by reaching for them in the water

I use to do proto testing for the sharks. The V1 was the best (2008-10). But it had a weak lens retainer (lots of lens popped out). They fixed this in V2 but they changed the form a little and I started to get the weird fog/build up on the lens. I ended up always using my V1's (lost the V2, don't float well).

My lens in the old sharks are cooked so instead of ordering another set. I started looking around and bumped into these. I have to tell you they blow the sharks away. I use the brown lens. They are not made like the sharks but the view and 0 fogging is crazy nice.

Oh and they float crazy good. you would have to be unconscious to lose them.

Grey lenses are not high definition
The light going through grey lenses will not come to a sharp point focus on retina like copper does

Copper is similar in a way to amber but it has added rose color "happy" tint into the lenses
Grey lenses because of their "darkness" also created more distracting reflections off their backside

Pupils open more behind grey lenses and less behind copper and amber lenses
That in itself is closer to the natural eye in sunlight (pupils close to a small size)

This makes it easier to see things sharply...combining high def lenses + smaller pupils
I think most people hate wearing sunglasses because grey lenses feel just too dark and dull

Copper is considered as ideal color for driving glasses worldwide for a very good reason
Keeps the driver alert ready to react in a split second to changing driving conditions and obstacles

Isn't it what kiteboarding / kitesurfing is all about

i cant spend more than 10 or 20 on a pair of sunglasses because when i crash really hard everything gets smashed up, sure I put a floaty on the glasses but if they are far enough away sometimes u cant spot them sometime they break in two.

cant believe how many people can wear the $100 sunglasses. I think I go through 6 sunglasses a season

agree sunglasses are a MUST

even if your eyes arent sensitive use the sunglasses it will prevent you from getting the cataracts
