SS Rally 2012 9m vs LF Envy 2012 9m

Postby rickybobbyalex » Sat Aug 31, 2019 5:27 pm

Hello everybody,

In an effort to get more kiting time, I'm trying to get my girlfriend into kiting, she took some lessons and all went well. To keep the momentum going I'm looking to buy a used 9m kite for her. I've got a Wainman 2.0 9m which I don't think she will like very much.
I've got my eye on either SS Rally 2012 9m or LF Envy 2012 9m. Prices for both are similar. Which one would you recommend for a beginner; should be stable, easy relaunch, forgiving, light to medium bar pressure,..., all of that good stuff which will make her love kiteboarding and me very happy!

Any input would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

2012 Rally were amazing wings - the easiest relaunching kite I ever flown, extremely light, very stable, pulleyless, great pull per size (note that 2012 Rallys are 1-2 sq.m smaller area than later Rallys)
The 9m Rally 2012 is a fantastic kite.

Rally has more bar pressure but Envy is actually missing bar pressure and you need some to pilot better.
Also Rally won’t serve that well for huge boosting or looping but it’s not a huge boosting/looping kite to start with.

The Envy is a good kite but not as amazing as Rally

I’ve had and ridden both and I stuck to my 2012 Rally quiver.

2012 Rally will do it. Ticks all your boxes. If its in good shape buy it. Still one of the favorite vintages of the Rally.
