I've used dakine hooks they are the weakest ones I've used, break very easily.

"I do tend to upgrade harnesses every few years"

I think it might be useful to figure out how long the hooks have been used not just which brands.

I use my harnesses until they wear out, then sew them up and keep using them.

I've never had to sew a harness... I replace them every few years

You don't need a loop and you don't need a hook. Your hook breaking off is your gear just trying to help you make that change. Listen to your gear. BTW how shit is Ion? No wonder they didn't use that name for kites...

I thought that looked like a bad design for a hook. Regular ones at least take the constant load in a straight path.

I've had a couple of older Dakine hooks snap right off, and a couple break on one side only.

Would really like one of those NP hooks but they're tough to find.

Angry. Disappointed. Hurt. Feelings
I love that you guys look into this stuff.

But if you are going to do testing, I hope you do it right and get an engineer.

And I would hope that you would get some real load data.

I’ve seen duotone using load sensors on kite lines. I would hope they would share that data.

And honestly, with some real load data you can probably figure out quite quickly with some analysis which hooks are going to be a problem.

We are open for suggestions regarding the (independent) engineer.
