ozone reo v3 8m, one flappy mofo on a foil

Postby vakiter » Wed Aug 12, 2020 8:24 pm

i like everything about this kite for foil.
light, fast, good relaunch, drifts . really nice, but it flapps like crazy when it zips accross the window. the flapping is more luffing right behind the LE, not in the TE.

is this still around in other versions? how about enduro?

My Enduros flap in onshore eave riding ( with tt) if i release the bar pressure completely. Not f I keep a bit of tension.

The V4 flutters a lot still when depowered.
Can recommend the Naish Boxer 2020. Despite being a 1-strut kite it flutters very much less than the Reo.
Other modern 1 or zero strut kites seem to be even better in this regard.

I think the flutter in the profile is really a design feature on some kites. I'm not saying it's appropriate on Reos, I don't know, but on the one strutters I tried, and on the Enduros, indeed, fully depowering the kite to allow that flutter to occur during a big traverse of the window slows down the kite and kills a fair bit of the power in the process, which is pretty good when foiling, typically for the cases when you go into an upwind leg after a gybe. You can still have a high ratio performing kite, but not have the typical massive spike of power when it goes across the window. Unless you want it of course, which is achieved by keeping a bit of tension in the steering lines.
I think that once you get to control that flutter and use it to your advantage, you'll get to like that.

Don´t get me wrong, I don´t wanted to say that the flutter is a flaw in the Reo design.
Personally, I don´t mind the flutter. I don´t see any real disadvantages in it. And it is right, you can easily avoid it by always keeping at least a bit of steering line tension.
