Hi Toby & others -

Cape Town is in fact windier in November than it is January.

See the statistics here:

https://www.windfinder.com/windstatistics/big_bay *

* This shows % days > Bft. 4 and average wind strength. Windfinder averages wind between 07.00 - 19.00. The effective wind is more since in Cape Town the wind often starts at lunchtime and continues to midnight - early hours, so the "effective" wind when you are out kiting in the afternoon is more than shown in these averages.

The reason more people visit Cape Town in late December / Jan (vs Nov) is fashion, peoples' ability to take time off work, the fact that there are more parties in Jan and because the kiting can still be really good in Europe in November. It has nothing to do with the wind being less good!

If you are independent-minded and are free to travel in November, then it is an excellent time to come. The season is just getting started so there are fun people around, but it is certainly less crowded. Everything is cheaper then as well. The only undisputed reason not to come in November is because the Autumn storms are still passing through in Europe and there is some warmth left in the North Sea. That cannot be said in Jan/Feb haha.

All the best,

BA
