Traveling with golf bag

Postby eedzic » Tue Jan 08, 2019 10:44 pm

Hello everyone!

Im planning to buy ticket for Brazil from
november...

So here is the question, since im from Montenegro thats a far way, and i have 3 options 1.Air Serbian over air France ,
2. Turkish airlines
3. Lufthansa

I am planning to buy that North Combibag Pop 2016 135 cm bag , cuz i have 136cm Twintip, 2 kites, bar, pump and harness..

Is it possible to use this kind of a bag as checked in bag ?
I am just looking for a advice how to go all trough for free :)

Thanks!

As long as it's less than 23kg it will sometimes be considered a regular checked bag. You really need to check with the airline and then still it is sometimes not consistent. Good luck - buying split boards as we speak!

Where in Brazil if I may ask? Was there over Christmas/New Years.

If you have a 136cm board, getting a 135cm bag is not a good idea. From most of the golf bags that I've got experience with, even putting a 145 into a 145 bag won't work. You need a smidge of room to make it fit in there usually. And if it's so tight it's against the edges of the bag, that's likely to be torn or broken by the time it arrives at your destination. Something to think about....

Also check all your flight segments and phone the separate airlines as some segments are codeshare flights, meaning, as in my example, I booked through Lufthansa flying in 3 segments: 1. Lufthansa 2. TAP and 3. Avianca. Lufthansa and TAP would take my boardbag for free but Avianca wouldn’t as they said I’d had to hand it in as freight (not normal checked sports luggage, no as freight) and would have to pay those exorbitant freight costs.

In the end I only took one kite with me and rented the board in Cumbuco.
