Iceland in February

Postby MaximumAC » Thu Jan 24, 2019 3:33 pm

I've searched for this topic and only seen info on Iceland in summer months. Also saw that Sam Light was just over there sans kiting. I'm headed over there for a week in early February and am wondering if it's worth it to bring gear. I'm pretty well adapted to super cold weather kiting at this point and see that there's ample access to water as we make our way around the "ring road" and/or "golden circle." I'd love to be able to say I kited in Iceland, but perhaps not worth the baggage fees if the session(s) will be poor and short. Thanks for any info!

been there last march, arround the ring road + golden circle. I did not bring gear or looked into spots (Vik looked like a nice beach though, but was ridiculously windy and gusty when I was there). But I can say even without kiting, there is plenty to do for one week! maybe even not enough for completeing the ring road, depending on weather. If you can, it is worth to spend a few more days. I also recomend sneafflesness peninsula, which is a 1 or 2 daysdetour from the ring road

Why don't you snowkite in Iceland at glaciers? Water kiting would be a bit hazardous if water splashes freeze to your bar/depower-lines etc.
