Spanish Lessons/Kitesurfing

Postby wild_dima » Thu Feb 14, 2019 5:19 pm

Hi everyone, new guy here,

I'm looking to go kiteboarding in April for 3 weeks somewhere in Central/South America where the water is warm :). I'm a beginner, probably need a couple more lessons as a refresher before going out on my own. I'd prefer to be next to a descent town/city so I can take Spanish lessons for those 3 weeks as well. I had my eyes set on Costa Rica, Salinas Bay or Lake Arenal, but can't find any Spanish schools nearby. I thought about Cabarete, Dominican Republic but not sure how good the winds are in April (not really the season from what I read). Was thinking maybe Marianita, Ecuador or Cartagena, Columbia. I surf as well so wouldn't mind surfing if the winds are down.

Any thoughts on those locations or any other recommendations?

Cartagena is awesome!

Been there and loved it.

Not sure about the wind though...but it should be fine for lessons.

Check with local kite schools what they say about the wind in April.

That's great, thanks Toby. I'll look into the winds, online shows it's the end of the wind season in April

It's not quite Central America but I would have a look at Bucerías or La Cruz in Mexico for the combo of kite lessons and Spanish lessons that time of year.

Hey feel free to check out PeruKite paracas. Wind nearly every day . Cheap kite lessons , cheap living and generally just an awesome place. Also Spanish teachers here cost around 6 - 7 USD a hour for a private class. Feel free to message us on social media if you have any questions

the further east you go towards the Cabo the more wind you will find.
Cabo has almost always wind...and great for lessons.
There is nothing else...so maybe be stationed in Santa Marta and have an instructor take you there for the weekends.

Or stay in Barranquilla...it's a bit further east than Cartagena, so a bit better wind.
And a very nice lagoon where they have lessons close to it.

And if you hurry...the second best Carnaval in South America!

Isla Holbox Mexico has everything you are asking for, warm water, consistent warm wind and excellent Spanish Language school/lessons. Great kite school as well.

You are in between seasons (swell/wind) for Marianita. Also look at Santa Lucia, Cuba (will have 10 - 15kts and all the resorts have Spanish lessons)

Hola! I have been living in Cabarete almost 8 years and have a kite school here. I wrote an article that discusses the wind history here: http://kiteboardingcabarete.com/blog/wi ... -cabarete/

April is not the windiest of months here, but in 3 weeks you should get a decent amount of windy days. If you were here a week, I would say it is a little more iffy. If you start thinking about heading this way, feel free to PM me. I am more than happy to help you figure out anything I can help with.
