Why Peru is not a more popular kite destination?

Postby wildk peru » Wed Feb 20, 2019 10:37 pm

Hello,

Why everybody goes to Brazil for their kitesurf holidays ? You will tell me : maybe because the wind is strong and like a fan all day everyday, because there are amazing infinite downwinders, because it is relatively cheap, the water is warm and there are palmtrees. OK that's true! I must reckon Brazil has most advantages every kitesurfers are looking for! :thumb:

But in Peru we also have so many pros too:
> First the wave riding 100 times better than Brazil, with the north shore (Mancora) and Pacasmayo, the longest waves in the World to be ridden with a kite,
> There are all type of spots (waves, flat lagunes, choppy, downwinders possible too)
> There is wind all year depending on the spot
> the statistics of wind are super high!
> we also have palm trees in sunny beaches in the north
> And last but not least: you can kite mostly alone, or with very few other kitesurfers, which mostly make a kite spot very special!
Now yes the water is colder than Brazil. Need a 3/2 for the south and a springsuit for Mancora.

If you want more info about Peru, I have released a complete guide:

Hope you like it!

For Europeans it’s further away.

For me personally: I want warm water!

20 degree water in Peru vs. 30 degree water in Brazil ... pretty easy choice.

Because it's still a secret that we have wind nearly everyday of the year and so Much space on the water 😁🤙

Just came two days ago from Peru (paracas). Yes, it is very windy and water is "cold", need to use a wetsuit. I liked to kite there.
Peru is quite far from Europe and expensive to fly to.
My stomach still hurts. I felt everyone in Paracas got some infection from food. The food wasn't that good in general, compared to Brazil for example..

Food in Peru it's just amazing. I think they have the best food in all LA. I'm actually living in Chile and here is windy but water is cooler and food sucks. I'd like to kite in Peru but for a kite trip I'd pick Brazil.

My wife still hasn't forgiven me for making her spend two weeks in Pacasmayo. She got sick...

The food IS great in Lima though - some of the best in the world in my view. I would go back just to eat. Mancora also has some excellent food but not at the level Lima is famous for. The small random towns though will probably not be kind to your stomach. But those waves are sweet for goofy riders like me...

I looked into it last year, but was put off by the 20 hour flight and 10 hour drive from airport to beach. I’d still like to go some time, but it just seemed like too much hassle to get there without good flights from where I am.
