Fuerteventura predicted wind vs. true wind

Postby MkayDude » Mon May 27, 2019 8:23 am

Hello guys,

I'm travelling to Fuerteventura next week (from 5th of June) and I wondered if there was any usual difference
between the wind forecast and the reality?

I know in some places you can add 10 kts every time to the forecasted wind!

Greetings,

Me

you already answered yourself ;-)

Sotavento gets stronger and gustier winds due to Venturi effects.

Never been at Flagbeach...but I hope Gunnar can answer you this, since he is a local there.

Wind on Fuerte is very dependent on the forecasted direction. The micro-climates really effect the wind.

Basic rule of thumb for the Summer is. If there is any easterly component to the wind Flag and Glass beach will only have wind in the early morning and after 17.00. Then the Wind will be on the west coast in El Cotillo and on the North Shore. The South will also get wind no matter what the direction, but the North Easterlies are usually more gusty then North Wind.

In the North you can usually add about 25% more wind strength for Flag and Glass Beach if it's North to North Westerly and about 35% more wind strength in El Cotillo of North Easterly winds.

Cool, many thanks for the quick reply to both of you!

And @Toby: I meant I knew there are places (around the world), that's why I asked specifically for Fuerte :) !
